Type 1 Youth Club Invitation!
Please pass on to anyone who may be interested
You are invited to join us at a new youth club for young Type1 Diabetics in Waltham Abbey and surrounding areas.
Starting Wednesday 6th April at The New Images/Way2000 youth club at 154 Brooker Road EN9 1JH.
8pm to 9.30pm
T1 Club nights will then be held on the first Wednesday of each month at 8pm to 9.30pm.
We believe that there are children locally who would enjoy getting together with others who are in a similar situation as them, for mutual support and friendships and fun. The youth club has Pool Tables, Wii, Computers, Music, books, kitchens, TV area, and Art. The club will be aimed at 11 to 17 year olds who have Type 1 diabetes. We anticipate that the young people will have a chance to make friends with others who live near them who are experiencing similar situations and dealing with the same issues. The may be occasional led talks in the future but the main goal is to offer them a chance to chat to other children with Type 1 and compare experiences and learn from each other.
There are separate rooms available for the parents to stay and chat too, coffee available. All ideas are welcome and if you can offer any support for example leaflets, talks, demonstrations etc we would love to hear from you.
Everyone is welcome, please let us know if you can come along so we have some idea of numbers,
Looking forward to meeting you all
Chloe, James, Debbie and all at the T1 club.

About the group
My name is Nicky, I live in Southport , Merseyside, with my husband Tom. The youngest of my 3 children was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus on 19th May 2008 aged 6, this was the day our world turned upside down and life changed forever!
I found that we needed more knowledge than the hospital could give us, wanted to meet and talk to other parents in the same position as us, and our daughter needed to meet other children with the condition.
Although I was lucky enough to find a fabulous online support community CWD and now meet up on ‘children with diabetes holidays’ with them, I still wanted to be able to meet/chat to people locally
There are other groups around the Northwest and Merseyside, but I found most of these were affiliated to Diabetes UK and therefore were primarily for fundraising or events, and although raising funds plays a major part in our lives now, we have chosen to fundraise for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) for me I needed a support group where I could meet/chat/email other parents on a daily basis.
