I’d just like to mention my daughter’s school, Wimbledon High. They are amazing and have been since her diagnosis in July 2005. They have two school nurses who have worked with the DSN and have regular meetings with the staff and games staff to review procedures. I am really lucky.
With best wishes

Broadfields School in Harlow have been absolutely fantastic in the care for my daughter who is 6. They are trained in her insulin pump, do BMs at least three time a day, test before and after P.E and when she is hypo. They follow her care plan carefully and are not afraid to call if they have a problem. They are just brilliant!

I have just seen the schools section on the website, and feel I must mention my son’s school.
Five Acres primary School in Ambrosden are working really hard with my son. I find out what fruit will be available so I can alter his morning dose accordingly, his class teacher checks him regularly at lunch time, before and after PE sessions and any other time I ask her to and if she is concerned. They are able to treat hypos and always phone if there are any concerns. It has taken time for them to learn everything required and it has not been without its teething troubles, but we are fortunate that he has the same class teacher as he had last year so she is tuned in to his hypo symptoms now. There are 3 people trained to perform blood glucose tests and 2 to perform injections. We are so lucky, they are fantastic and always take concerns seriously. There are 2 other children in the school who also have type 1.
These supportive schools are certainly worthy of a mention!
